Martin Whist is a Canadian-born visual artist based in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. He began his formal training at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver in 1992, where he also exhibited with Catriona Jeffries Gallery. Whist later earned his Master of Fine Arts from Claremont Graduate University in Los Angeles in 1994.

Following his graduate studies, he exhibited with Acme Gallery in Los Angeles throughout the late 1990s and into the early 2000s. After several years immersed in the LA art scene, Whist chose to step back from public exhibition to pursue a more introspective period of artistic development. During this time, his creative interests expanded into film, where he built a distinguished career as a feature film Production Designer.

While continuing his work in film, Whist maintained his studio practice, culminating in his first exhibition since leaving Los Angeles—at Tew Galleries in Atlanta in 2021. He has since exhibited primarily in the Atlanta area and continues his work out of his rural studio in Chattahoochee Hills, GA.
